The man Solomon Northup was an American abolitionist and the author of the book Twelve Years a Slave (a great book, and it was even turned into a movie recently) about his horrible true life experience of going from being a free man to then being solid into slavery by kidnappers and surviving that horrible situation to get his freedom... 12 years later! Fascinating life and story. (This image is based on a wood block print image appearing in his autobiographical book.)
